Cheap International Flights Boost Business Travel

September 25th, 2009

Airlines have been offering cheap international flights to boost its operations. And their efforts are starting to show some results as vacancies in business class seats on international flights are becoming fewer.

Industry experts said that the slump in the business travel category is starting to ease up with fewer number of seat vacancies in the business class. They said that efforts of airlines are starting to pay off as they begin to fill empty business-class seats, adding that the decline in cross-border operation is easing up.

Last July, the number of people traveling on international markets on first or business class dropped by 14.1 percent for the same month the previous year. However the drop was lesser compared with the 21.3 percent posted in June.

According to industry experts, international traveling is mostly focused on business and is closely linked to world trade that slumped in May and showed some revival in June. They said that despite airlines’ offer of cheap international flights and improvements in cross-border commerce, demand for business travel is still weak compared with previous years.

If you are thinking of booking an international flight, today is the right time to get the cheapest deals. With the help of the Internet, finding cheap airline flights is not that difficult. You can access airfares and discounts with just a few clicks of your fingers. Furthermore, almost all airlines are offering online discounts for early buyers.

To be always the first to know about airline promotions, subscribe to email newsletters to keep yourself updated on travel trends and discounts. Take time to browse various travel sites. You will not only discover cheap airfares but also get information about various popular tourist destinations, cheap accommodations, restaurants and other places that may interest you.

On the other hand, you can save on your airfare if you book round trip. This way, you get to reduce your travel expenditure. When booking an international flight, book also your return trip by buying the tickets at the same time and with the same airlines.

Another factor to consider in order for you to get cheap international flights is to avoid booking on direct flights to your destination. Comparing the cost can show that flying direct is more expensive than taking indirect flights.

Cheapest Airfare Affected by Cuts in Airline Flights

September 24th, 2009

Airlines have been adjusting on changes in travelers’ attitudes during this economic downturn by offering cheapest airfare. But it seems the strategy is not enough to keep airline companies afloat as they found another way to survive—cutting on the number of flights.

For several years now, airlines have gradually cut their capacity by reducing flights in an effort to survive the current economic slump. Industry experts said that airlines were forced to reduce their seat capacity because flying with so many vacant seats means revenue loss.

And it seems the trend is gaining a foothold as airlines are preparing to reduce more seats as demand waned. Fewer seats mean passengers have to compete for them and for the cheapest airfare.

There are some ways to circumvent this situation and still travel at low cost. First, get yourself updated on latest travel trends. Data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) showed that available seat miles last June were similar with the same month in 1999.

According to the BTS, the figures do not include the current seat cutbacks for this year’s fall and showed a decline of over 10 percent from the June 2005 peak. The problem is, the country’s population exploded by 10 percent during the same period.

Industry experts said that a shortage in airline seats may lead to overbooking. They advise travelers to avoid being taken out of overbooked flights unless airlines will guarantee a seat on their next flight. They said that travelers could be in for a long wait if airlines tell them that seats would be available on the next possible flight.

Take advantage of every promotion that airlines offer. If possible, plan your travel early so that you will have plenty of time to scout for low airfare. If your travel time is flexible, choose to go on a trip during the non-peak season. This means avoid booking your trip during the holidays. But if you have to, then do your planning and booking early because the closer the departure dates are, the more expensive are the airfare.

Finally, subscribe to airlines’ email newsletters to get yourself updated on their activities and promotions and have the first chance to avail of cheapest airfare when they offer them.

Buying Cheap Air Tickets: The Earlier, the Better

September 23rd, 2009

School has just started and the last thing that would occupy your time and mind right now is to search for cheap air tickets. But you might be surprise to know that it is exactly the reason why smart travelers always get the best holiday airfare deals—they start their search early.

According to industry experts, post-Labor day airfare sales are being offered by major carriers. They believed that it is never too early for you to start searching for cheap airfare.

Experts said that during the economic downturn, traveling was the farthest thing on people’s mind so buying a ticket was always a last minute decision. Airlines adjusted to this trend by offering airfare sales for last minute deals.

However, as the economy is starting to pick up, airlines were able to predict passenger numbers, making cheap air tickets hard to come by.

If you are a novice traveler, you should know that fall is a non-peak period for air travel. To entice more travel deals during this season, airlines launch fare sales earlier and stretching them longer.

Several major airlines, such as Virgin America, United, JetBlue and American launched travel sales from New York City for as low as $49 for travel until December 17. During winter season, when most people were on Thanksgiving or Christmas travel, airlines will still convince consumers to fly.

Despite some sporadic increases, fares across the United States were still at their lowest compared with previous years. Overall, fares dropped by almost 20 percent compared with last year. Some prices for popular airline routes were increased last summer but were reduced again.

For example, the price of an airline ticket from New York City to Los Angeles jumped across major airlines, but is now down to $218.

Meanwhile, other airlines are being aggressive on their marketing strategies by posting their fare sales on social networking Web sites. This strategy was tried by Southwest, JetBlue and Virgin America.

Airlines are also targeting people who procrastinate about booking trips, worrying that they could not afford to travel. To entice this group of consumers, airlines have reduced airfares as departure dates are getting closer. However, there seems to be an exemption during the holidays. Because airlines know that more people travel during the holidays, cheap air tickets would not last long on the market.

So if you are planning to travel during the holidays, scout and book early to get the best holiday airfare deal.
