Delta Adjusts International Flights for 2010

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Adjustments in the number of international flights, routes and plane sizes are just some of the things you can expect from Delta Air Lines next year. The adjustments were announced this Tuesday and will be implemented by the summer of 2010.

Considered to be the world’s largest airline operator, Delta is seeking to increase profit as it continue to struggle with the losses incurred due to the global crisis.

In fact, it has just previously said that it would cut its international flights capacity by as much as 15 percent beginning September. Such capacity is actually measured by multiplying the number of available seats and the miles flown.

Last year, the Atlanta-based airline acquired Northwest Airlines, providing it with a means to assign the larger planes to profitable routes. The smaller planes, on the other hand, can be used for the less profitable ones. And to show its flexibility in serving its passengers, Delta even agreed to a joint-venture with Air France – KLM.

With the international flights adjustments, the airline will be able to expand its services to customers located in at least 17 cities. Also, there will be no new reductions that passengers can expect aside from the ones which were already implemented last June.

Some of the changes in flights and routes include the following:

  • From Detroit: nonstop flight service to Hong Kong and Seoul – Incheon; expanded service to Shanghai
  • For Tokyo – Narita routes: resumption of seasonal yet nonstop service for Tokyo-Salt Lake City, with at least five flights per week
  • Reintroduction of seasonal service to over twelve trans-Atlantic routes
  • Nonstop flight service between JFK (New York) and Stockholm and Copenhagen
  • Service to over 10 destinations in Africa including Malabo, Monrovia, Nairobi, Luanda, Kenya, Angola, Liberia and Equatorial Guinea.

Travelers who will be booking Delta cheap international airline tickets should check the airline’s website to get the latest news and information regarding their new flight services.

Fewer Cheap Flights Due to Fewer Seats

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Although the “season to be merry” is almost upon us, hunting for cheap flights will be much more challenging this year for those who will be travelling by air this holiday. One of the reasons for this is the fewer airline seats.

Compared to last year, the number of seats is about 3.4 percent lower. Majority of airlines has decided to cut the number of flights as a way to ensure that all flights will be fully-booked, allowing them to maximize profit. For instance, the number of available seats to 50 of the busiest cities in the nation for the day before Thanksgiving is 80,000 less than last year.

Considering that the demand has been growing steadily since summer, it is not surprising that airfare will skyrocket as the busy travel days near.

Experts are saying that travelers might be able to enjoy cheap flights, if and only if they book their tickets as soon as possible. Procrastinating or waiting until the last minute will certainly mean more money being spent on airline tickets alone.

Such news is certainly not welcome for those who really need to travel during the holidays especially if they consider the cheap airplane tickets enjoyed last fall due to the sluggish economy.

For certain, the situation is different this year. Already, several airlines have decided to charge passengers with a $10 surcharge fee, supposedly to cover fuel costs. This is on top of the fees imposed on checked baggage. If you factor in the expensive airfare, you will really have a hard time staying within your budget.

If you are skeptical about news of soaring airfare, you simply have to check airlines’ websites as well as their aggregates.

For example, you will find that United Airlines tickets to Chicago from Washington DC for Thanksgiving costs $563 as compared to $285 last month. Meanwhile, Continental tickets to San Francisco from Newark for the same day will cost you $869 from $504.

Travelers who want to keep travel expenses low are advised by travel agents to be very careful when shopping and comparing. Some bargains may not really be bargains after all if you include the surcharges and other miscellaneous fees that the airline will impose.

For this reason, it is vital that you understand the limitations of these cheap flights offers.

Expensive Airplane Tickets, Flight Delays Expected This Holiday

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

With the busiest time of the year just around the corner, travel gurus and experts are saying that airplane tickets are expected to be pricey. Aside from this, travelers should also anticipate flight delays.

The increase in airfare can be attributed to the great demand and lack of available flights. Airlines have already made announcements that they will be reducing the number of flights in order to maximize profits.

In addition, there is also that fuel surcharge that will be imposed on 3 of the busiest travel dates. Of course, the surcharge is usually included in the price of the airplane tickets so travelers can immediately notice that airfare will be much higher.

Some travelers have accepted the sad fact that they have to pay more this holiday especially since they have no choice. On the other hand, there are those who are patient and flexible enough to look for cheap airfare and avoid the busy travel days.

Experts are also advising travelers to come ahead of time in order to avoid the huge crowd. If possible, take advantage of the online baggage check that most airlines are offering. If you will be traveling for business reasons, make sure that you travel lightly so that there is no need to check in any luggage.

A lot of airlines are also charging fees for checked baggage and you can avoid paying more if you consider bringing just your carry-on luggage.

In cases of flight delays, travelers should avoid becoming irritated and instead bring along items that could help past the time such as magazines, books and even a laptop so you can do some work.

For cancelled flights, you should consider staying at a nearby airport hotel instead of going home especially if you reside far from the airport.

As always, shopping and comparing prices of airplane tickets is still recommended. Keep in mind that it will be more expensive to book flights on busy days so you should check the other dates and you will be surprised with the huge difference in prices.
