Finding Cheap Airfare May Be Challenging in 2010
Friday, October 2nd, 2009Based on a travel forecast released this Wednesday, it would seem that the search for cheap airfare will be more challenging next year as the airline industry welcomes the increasing flight demand.
The 2010 forecast, which came from the American Express Business Travel, also showed that the average rates for hotels are expected to fall.
Overall prices for plane tickets could increase by as much as 5 percent worldwide. This increase is applicable to short flights and in economy class. On the other hand, those who will be booking long flights under business class can expect an airfare increase by as much as 6 percent.
For travels in North America, a rise of as much as 6 and 7 percent for economy and business class respectively is expected as well. Travelers should keep in mind that any surcharge or additional airline fees are not included in the ticket prices.
In the coming year, the airline industry will definitely enjoy an advantage considering that the demand for flights have increased over the past seasons. Such demand soared due to the decision of most airlines to reduce the number of flights.
This allowed them to sell all seats, maximize fuel expenses and cut overhead costs. Even their offers of cheap airfare have grown in order to attract more flyers.
Considering the effects of the economic recession on the travel industry, it is not surprising that the need for business meetings and travels were constrained this year and expected to be unleashed next year.
One of the signs that the demand is growing is evident today. Airlines are no longer giving out as many bargain deals especially with the coming holidays. For instance, Southwest are currently offering discounts on their airplane tickets but if you check them out, you will find that they are not as low as travelers might expect.
For travel experts, the days of cheap airfare might be slowly disappearing. Of course, this does not mean that there would no longer be any offers available. Travelers will just need to be extra resourceful and creative when hunting for the lowest ticket prices.
