Delta Adjusts International Flights for 2010

Adjustments in the number of international flights, routes and plane sizes are just some of the things you can expect from Delta Air Lines next year. The adjustments were announced this Tuesday and will be implemented by the summer of 2010.

Considered to be the world’s largest airline operator, Delta is seeking to increase profit as it continue to struggle with the losses incurred due to the global crisis.

In fact, it has just previously said that it would cut its international flights capacity by as much as 15 percent beginning September. Such capacity is actually measured by multiplying the number of available seats and the miles flown.

Last year, the Atlanta-based airline acquired Northwest Airlines, providing it with a means to assign the larger planes to profitable routes. The smaller planes, on the other hand, can be used for the less profitable ones. And to show its flexibility in serving its passengers, Delta even agreed to a joint-venture with Air France – KLM.

With the international flights adjustments, the airline will be able to expand its services to customers located in at least 17 cities. Also, there will be no new reductions that passengers can expect aside from the ones which were already implemented last June.

Some of the changes in flights and routes include the following:

  • From Detroit: nonstop flight service to Hong Kong and Seoul – Incheon; expanded service to Shanghai
  • For Tokyo – Narita routes: resumption of seasonal yet nonstop service for Tokyo-Salt Lake City, with at least five flights per week
  • Reintroduction of seasonal service to over twelve trans-Atlantic routes
  • Nonstop flight service between JFK (New York) and Stockholm and Copenhagen
  • Service to over 10 destinations in Africa including Malabo, Monrovia, Nairobi, Luanda, Kenya, Angola, Liberia and Equatorial Guinea.

Travelers who will be booking Delta cheap international airline tickets should check the airline’s website to get the latest news and information regarding their new flight services.
